Education

  • Aunty Noe Noe Kekaualua

Our hālau has been blessed with cultural advisors and mentors Aunty Noe Noe Kekaualua, and her husband, Uncle Earl DeLeon from the Big Island of Hawai’i. Aunty Noe and Uncle Earl are activists of indigenous rights and the preservation of their cultures and lands. They are warriors in the continued fight of the Lāhui all over Hawai’i and across the world.

Aunty Noe has decades of experience and ‘ike (knowledge), not only as a hula practitioner, but also as an educator and ambassador of Hawaiian culture, language, and protocol. We have been fortunate enough to be under her mentorship since 2023, along side our sister hālau, Ha’a Hula Te Reva O Te Manu, under the direction of Kumu Malou Kamaile Smith.

Aunty Noe travels to us about twice a year for cultural workshops. Starting this year our haumāna will start our yearly huaka’i (journey) to Aunty Noe on the Big Island for cultural immersion workshops on the ‘aina.

  • Cultural Workshops

The first workshop our haumāna are taught. is the Foundation of Aloha workshop. This workshop instills the values of Aloha, written by Aunty Pilahi Paki.

AKAHAI E NĀ HAWAIʻI Kindness, meekness

LŌKAHI A KŪLIKE- unity and harmony

ʻOLUʻOLU KA MANAʻO- pleasant and thoughtful

HAʻAHAʻA KOU KŪLANA- humility, to be humble

AHONUI A LANAKILA- patience & perseverance

This is the foundation of our hālau. We teach our haumāna to carry these values with them in every aspect of their lives, to do everything with Aloha. To love one another, and care for one another- “aloha kekahi i kekahi, mālama kekahi i kekahi.”
